Dr Holly comes from a Taiwanese background. She grew up in Hamilton, New Zealand where she spent most of her childhood days. Later on, she moved to Gold Coast Australia where she graduated from Griffith University with a Master of Dentistry. During her days in uni, she received multiple awards such as “The Australian and New Zealand society of paediatric dentistry award”, “The Australian society of orthodontists Queensland branch prize award” and “The Head of School Commendation for Academic Excellence”. This just shows how dedicated Dr Holly is early on to pursue her dream to be a dentist. To this day, she continues to attend training and professional development courses to better her skills.

Dr Holly is passionate about delivering good quality work. It gives her joy to know her patients and be able to connect with them. Dr Holly is a caring and gentle dentist, she is passionate about dentistry and focuses on patient care. She believes that a trip to the dentist should be a positive and comfortable experience. She enjoys working together with her patients to help them achieve optimum oral health.

Dr Holly’s lovely and warm personality resonates outside dentistry. She loves music and was trained in singing, playing the piano and guitar. She was a member of a rock band, jazz band, choir and worship band. Dr Holly once played the coveted role of Eponine in the musical stage production of Les Miserables.

She likes making things with her own hands, she enjoys arts and crafts, painting and sewing. She also enjoys serving at her church and growing in faith.

Dr Holly often travels as she enjoys exploring nature and getting to experience different cultures around the world. She has been involved in numerous volunteering projects. She travelled to Nepal with a group of dentists in 2018 and was later on appointed as the 2018 Ambassador for Nepal dental volunteer for the group Around Good People. She also volunteered at the Tara Medical and Dental fair in rural Australia in 2018 and for a church outreach in 2019 in Gatton.

Melinda Oxley-long – Dentist/Practice Manager

Melinda has travelled, lived and practiced dentistry in many parts of the world. She grew up and completed schooling in both Perth, Western Australia and Greeley, Colorado in the USA. Since then has lived in Canberra, graduated University in Western Australia, moved to the UK for four years and then finally found herself in Brisbane. In Perth, Melinda obtained her Bachelor of Dental Science in 1992 from the University of Western Australia. Not to mention, she is currently completing her Master’s Degree at Southern Cross University.

Having been with Dr Smile since 2007, Melinda is a veteran. One of her favourite parts of the job is meeting people and hearing their stories. She also finds dentistry very rewarding as it has such a big impact on her patient’s appearance and confidence.

Melinda has three children, two ‘fur babies’ and regularly hosts exchange students meaning she tends to have a house full of teenagers. On top of everything else Melinda juggles, she also speaks German! In her spare time, Melinda loves to watch her daughter compete in sport. Music also has a huge place in her life and everyone in her family plays an instrument.

Kisshanpyar Anand– Dental Assistant

Kish grew up in Melbourne, Australia. He graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelors Degree in Science with Honours, he also has a Graduate Certificate in Public Health from Flinders University. He is currently on his way to becoming a dentist, a current student at Griffith University pursuing Dentistry.

Kish is our new dental assistant here at Dr Smiles - Southport. He has been working as a dental assistant for 2 years. Kish always finds great pleasure in assisting our dentists and see people’s big smiles at the end of each treatment. He hopes to deliver excellent dental care through strong communication and personalised care. Kish chose this field as it encompasses science, art and the humanistic side of holistic care of an individual.

Kish spends his free time playing cricket for his local club. Kish has lived in various countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Bahrain and India and is well accustomed to its local dialects and tradition. He is adventurous and enjoys going on scuba diving expeditions and bushwalking.

Laura Nichitean – Dental Assistant

Having grown up in Romania as well as spending three years volunteering her skills in third world countries (Uganda, Philippines and Israel), Laura (Loz) thoroughly enjoys learning new cultures and working with people. She speaks Romanian, English and basic Spanish and we are so pleased to have such a compassionate dental assistant be a part of the Southport team.

Before entering into dental assisting, Laura spent nine years working as a Pharmacy Assistant/Vitamin Consultant. Laura started her career in dental assisting after gaining a Certificate III in Dental Assisting and Certificate III in Pharmacy from TAFE Queensland and hasn’t looked back. She is passionate about dental assisting and aims to provide compassionate care by helping our dentist here in Dr Smile – Southport provides the best treatments to our patients. She has consistently received positive customer service feedback and aims to keep it that way.

Laura does everything in her power to ensure people going through pain or discomfort are tended to and prides herself on patients leaving with a smile. She especially loves when she is able to remove the fear-factor from a patient’s dental experience and completely change their impression of dentistry to a positive one.

In her free time, Laura loves to curl up with a book and take some time for herself. However, Laura loves adventure and new discoveries so spends a lot of time travelling and learning about different culture’s way of life.

Lisa O’Neill Receptionist

Lisa grew up in Pietermaritzburg in South Africa, speaks fluent Afrikaans and has many years of dental knowledge and experience. Having studied to be a Dental Assistant at Lameth College, and graduating in 1996, Lisa has been in the dental industry a long time. Lisa empathises with patients who have fears of the dentist and has a knack for curing nervousness with her warm and welcoming personality. Lisa has been with Southport since our inception and loves how family oriented the practice is and the supportiveness of her team.

Outside of dentistry, Lisa loves sport; particularly basketball and roller skating, music and fitness. She is also a fantastic photographer and has her own photography business. Lisa is also busy at home with two teenage boys and one baby girl!

Sandeep Basnet Dental Assistant

Prior to moving to Australia in 2009, Sandeep grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal. He studied at the Kantipur School of Dentistry where he obtained his Certificate in Dental Science. Upon moving, he began working as a Dental Hygienist and hasn’t stopped since! Having joined our Dr Smile team in 2020, we are very excited to have his experience and passion for the industry join us.

Sandeep loves having the opportunity to work closely with the Dentists and other team members. He has a keen interest in new dentistry technology and is highly focused on ensuring each patient is comfortable.

In his spare time, you’ll find Sandeep either playing cricket or traveling the world.
