Dr Yu-Hawke Lam B.D.S. - Dentist

Dr Yu-Hawke Lam grew up in Sydney and has lived locally since 2014, joining our dental team late in 2016. After first graduating with a Bachelor of Medical Science, Dr Yu-Hawke Lam graduated with his Bachelor of Dentistry from the University of Sydney. Since qualifying, Dr Yu-Hawke Lam has developed a clinical interest in oral surgery. Dr Yu-Hawke Lam chose dentistry because he knew he wanted a career helping people since he was very young, influenced by his positive dental experiences during childhood. Dr Yu-Hawke Lam finds dentistry extremely rewarding and loves being able to meet different people from many walks of life, helping them to achieve and maintain good oral health.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Yu-Hawke Lam loves making costumes and props and wearing them to conventions. He also enjoys board games with friends or completing the occasional escape room. He enjoys travelling and especially to Japan to experience the atmosphere, culture and especially their food. Dr Yu-Hawke and his lovely wife enjoys taking care of their cute one year old cat.

Dr Clare Hoy B.D.S. - Dentist

Dr Clare grew up in Scotland where she obtained her BSc Biomedical Science Degree (Hons) in 2012. She then went on to gain her Bachelor of Dentistry in 2017 at Glasgow University. The passion for dentistry is shared among Dr Clare’s family with her mother and sister, like her, both dentists. Leaving her hometown, Dr Clare moved to Australia and joined us at the Wattle Grove practice in 2020.

Educating patients about proper oral health and helping those in pain are two of Dr Clare’s favourite aspects of her work. Seeing returning patients and noticing improvements in their oral health reinforces how valued and trusted she is among our local community.

Outside of the practice, Dr Clare is an avid runner and enjoys taking time outdoors to exercise. By nature, she is very social and loves to spend time with friends. Having moved to Australia all the way from Scotland, Dr Clare loves to travel and experience the world.

Laura Burgers - Dental Assistant

Laura was born and raised in Melbourne, Victoria and graduated from Sandringham Tec. She originally worked in Melbourne for six years as a Dental Assistant, before meeting her husband and moving to Sydney. Laura has worked with us since 2015 and loves her job at our Wattle Grove practice. She particularly enjoys interacting with our patients, getting to know them a little better and ensuring they feel and ease and leave the practice with a smile. Laura is especially good at reassuring more nervous patients and wants to make sure everyone has a positive experience at Dr Smile.

Away from dentistry, Laura likes spending time with her husband and family, and their dog a Maltese x Shih Tzu, Hutchi. She enjoys spending time at the beach, and Hutchi loves Centennial Park. Laura’s other interests include keeping fit, travelling, music and entertainment and just curling up with a good book.

Dr Sonia Narula B.D.S. - Dentist

Dr Sonia Narula graduated with her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from DAV Centenary Dental College in India and has over 22 years of experience in the dental profession. She has been with Dr Smile since 2004 and is loved by all our patients. Often, Dr Sonia will see patients requiring more complex care and are referred by other dentists that value Dr Sonia’s skill and experience. She loves the challenge of more difficult cases and especially seeing patients smile once the work is complete. Dr Sonia’s special interests include Invisalign Clear braces and Crown and Bridge dentistry.

Away from Dr Smile, Dr Sonia is a dedicated mum to two boys, and she loves to meditate and practice yoga.

Dr Jimmy Thai B.D.S. - Dentist

Dr Jimmy Thai grew up in Sydney and has lived locally since 2014. He graduated from the University of Sydney with his Doctor of Dental Medicine. Since graduating, Dr Jimmy is enjoying honing his skills as a General Dentist, but his clinical interests include restorative and oral surgery. He loves meeting new people and providing the very best treatment solutions for his patients. Dr Jimmy has a kind and caring approach that helps patients of all ages feel comfortable and relaxed. He also enjoys giving back, volunteering on dental missions helping those who are less fortunate. Favourite subjects to chat about include movies, food and basketball, and travelling.

Away from Dr Smile, Dr Jimmy loves spending time with his family and friends, sharing a good meal or playing basketball.

Joyce Tran - Receptionist & Dental Assistant

Joyce grew up in Vietnam and has lived locally since 2008 when she came to work for us here at Dr Smile, first as a Dental Assistant before becoming our receptionist at Wattle Grove. She is a highly valued member of our dental team and has over 18 years’ experience in the dental industry. Joyce will always go that extra mile to ensure our practice continually delivers a high standard of infection control, and that our patients feel comfortable and receive the very best of care. She is fluent in Chinese, Vietnamese and loves helping people from these communities.

When not assisting our patients and dentists, Joyce likes spending time with her family, and she enjoys travelling and cooking.

Jessica Tran - Dental Assistant

Jessica (Jessy) was born and raised in Vietnam until moving to Sydney in 2000. In Sydney she obtained her Certificate III in Business Administration and Certificate III in Dental Assisting through TAFE. Jessy has over ten years experience as a dental assistant and provides patients the feeling of comfort and reliability with complete ease. Jessy prides herself on removing patient discomfort or pain and ensuring they leave the practice happy.

Jess also speaks four languages including Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese and English, there’s not much she can’t do! Her favourite aspect of dentistry is the variety it creates for her on a day-to-day basis, no two days are the same. She also has a fascination with teeth extractions, fillings and implants so she is well and truly in the right place.

In her personal life, two of Jessy’s favourite things to do are cook and hike. She is also very social and enjoys catching up with her friends on a regular basis.
