Regular Examinations

Prevention is Better Than Cure.

We strongly recommend regular dental examinations for all our patients as this is the best and most cost-effective way to prevent dental disease. It is an approach that helps to ensure your natural teeth remain strong and healthy for longer, and we hope for life.

How Frequently Should I See a Dentist?

When you first visit Dr Smile, we will closely examine your teeth and gums and will review your dental and medical history. The information allows us to devise your personal preventive dental care plan that shows how frequently you should have a regular examination. Most people will need to see a dentist every six months, but if you have an existing dental disease or a medical issue that affects your oral health, we may suggest you visit us more frequently.

Why Visit a Dentist When My Mouth Feels Healthy?

Often, the early signs of disease will not cause any symptoms, but this is the ideal time to detect and treat them. During your regular examination, we carefully assess the health of every tooth and your oral tissues to see if there have been any changes since your last visit. With this approach, we can provide treatment at a stage when it is less invasive, quicker and more cost-effective, and it will help to preserve your natural teeth more effectively. For example, gum disease is common and creates few early signs, but is easily curable when treated promptly. We also monitor the condition of existing dental restorations. As they age, they can begin to fail and will need replacing, so they continue to protect your teeth.

What if I Need Treatment?

If we do discover any issues requiring treatment, our dentist will provide a treatment plan detailing all possible options, costs and time needed. Sometimes there is more than one solution available. We will explain each procedure carefully, so you fully understand how it will help you and can make an informed choice about your dental care.
